Ayeeeee, look at disss, my guy. I actually became semi-viral from a Reddit post. That’s krazyyyyyyy.
I’m genuinely proud that this happened. I never usually have much of a presence on social media, so any form of recognition in a public space is something I cherish a lot, probably because I’m kind of deprived of it, as pathetic as that may sound.
But more importantly, I’m really happy that the I-Jeepney project I’ve been working on (and am still working on) received overwhelmingly positive feedback from people! I even got around two route contributions, which is pretty cool, along with several feature suggestions that could be interesting to implement in future updates.
There are approximately 4,400 people in that subreddit, and my post reached 3,400 of them.
That is essentially more than 75% of the entire goddamn community.
AND I BECAME ONE OF THE TOP MONTHLY UPVOTED POSTS.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It’s genuinely nice to receive some form of validation for your hard work. ^^ I know public approval shouldn’t be the foundation of the project’s development, but come on, it always feels good to be appreciated. It makes me want to work on the app even more.
And now thanks to the suggestions and further brainstorming sessions, there are still plenty of exciting things coming.
I’m currently redesigning the application so that it looks more like Google Maps, particularly with the new “From” and “To” location system directly on the homepage. I’m also in the process of finalising a payment system for jeepney fares so that we can slowly help transition the Philippines towards becoming a more cashless country.
I’m also working on expanding the service beyond jeepneys. The goal is to eventually support sikad drivers, buses, and other forms of local transportation that usually go completely under the radar in most mapping and transportation applications.
This is honestly becoming a much bigger project than I originally anticipated, but that’s fine. I’m driven by passion rn, and, admittedly, I’m also being heavily carried by my clanker friends: Claude Code and a recurring YC ( young clanker ) Codex, courtesy of my one-month free Plus subscription.
I’m currently projecting that most of the major features will be completed by the end of the month, followed by another month dedicated primarily to UI refinement and general cleanup.
On the advertising and partnership side, we’re now attempting to reach out to technology organisations—and even the Department of Transportation—to hopefully establish some form of official standing for the project.
Apparently, my girlfriend also has a neighbour who is literally the head of the DICT, the Department of Information and Communications Technology in the Philippines.
LITERALLY jackpot, cha-ching type shit right here.
We apparently just missed their latest startup funding round but honestly that’s fine. It simply means we now have more time to improve and refine the application so that, when the next opportunity arrives, we can confidently submit it and hopefully secure the bag.
A lot of great things are hopefully still to come.
God knows I needed a break, and this might finally be it.
Thanks, G! ^^
